My 6th great-grandfather Gilbert Denton (Erickson line) died on this day in 1778 during the Wyoming Massacre. I believe he is only one of two direct ancestors that I know of that died during war.
Because of confusion between him and one of his sons, documentation of his death is confusing and scarce. The best the family has been able to determine is that Gilbert died during the massacre while his son Daniel (who was reported killed in the massacre) is well documented to have lived into the 19th century. Gilbert's name on the Wyoming Massacre memorial is listed as "D. Denton."
