My 4th great-grandfather Charles Guerrant was born in 1776 [4] in Buckingham County, Virginia to Peter Guerrant, Jr. and Mary Perreau [2, 6, 7]. He married Mary "Polly" Spencer, daughter of Moses Spencer and Judith Ayres, on 13 Jul 1806 in Buckingham County, Virginia [1, 2, 3]. Charles served as a private in the Capt. William Jones Company of the 4th Regiment of Virginia Militia from 26 Feb 1814 to 10 Jun 1814 during the War of 1812 for which he received a land bounty [4, 5]. After the War Charles and Mary settled in Franklin County, Tennessee where Charles would live the remainder of his life. Aside from various land dealings [8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13] and census records [14, 15, 16, 17] little is known about the life of Charles. He died before Dec 1851 when we see his estate in probate in Franklin County [18].
The most fascinating aspect about Charles and Polly are the names of their children. Whoa - now, these are some names! I am not sure where the documentation comes in for all of the names. Some of the names appear in part or in full in gift deed records [19, 20]. Others I likely pulled from a booklet called Guerin de Beaumont by Mrs. Opal McAdams Samuel which I found in the Huntsville, Texas library genealogy room.
